Lent – Day 35 — It’s Our Choice
“I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live…” Deuteronomy 30:19
“Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron, and said, “Entreat the LORD that He may take away the frogs from me and from my people; and I will let the people go, that they may sacrifice to the LORD. And Moses said to Pharaoh, ‘Accept the honor of saying when I shall intercede for you, for your servants, and for your people, to destroy the frogs from you and your houses, that they may remain in the river only.’ ” Ex. 8:8-9
There are things that we all wrestle with in life and some that seem to plague us no matter what we do, or how hard we try
by human energy and effort to be free from them. Despite all we do, they sometimes persist and even grow more dominant the harder we try to control them. How about these? Weight control, self-discipline, temperance, patience, faithfulness, love, joy, peace, health, financial prosperity, rest, regular cycles of work, recreation and sleep,
In most cases these things are not the fault of someone else’s actions against us. Sometimes they can be, but more often than not they are the result of actions we took that over time just got worse and worse.
Pharaoh was faced with a plague of frogs. They were everywhere, in his house, in his beds, in his ovens, even in the bread dough. They were all over the place. The nation was covered with them.
Now here are two amazing things that happened in this situation. Moses had called for the plague of frogs over the land according to God’s Word against Pharaoh, because he would not let the children of Israel go free from their bondage of slavery in Egypt. So, the Lord told Moses to tell Aaron to stretch out his rod over the streams and rivers and the ponds and cause frogs to come up on the land of Egypt.
But what did the magicians of Pharaoh’s court do when the plague of frogs came? To prove their “magic” was greater than Moses’ they did their enchantments and brought up more frogs! What? Don’t you think it would have been a better idea to do something to get rid of the frogs rather than try to outdo Moses by mimicking the plague as they had done with the serpents?
Actually, I think they did try to undo the plague but they only made it worse.
Now here is the even more remarkable thing. Pharaoh, when he is finally fed up with the frogs, calls for Moses to come and entreat God to take away the plague of frogs. So Moses comes and says to Pharaoh, when do you want me to intercede for you, to destroy the frogs from you and your houses? And astoundingly, Pharaoh, the “brilliant” all-powerful ruler of Egypt says…”Tomorrow.”
ARE YOU KIDDING ME? TOMORROW? You got frogs coming out of your ears and you say, tomorrow? Why not now, this minute? He was so warped in his mind that he actually chose to spend one more night with the frogs when he could have gotten deliverance immediately.
So Moses said to him, “Let it be according to your word…” The fate of Pharaoh and his people rested with his decision, and he chose to put off for another day what could have been defeated, overcome, removed in an instant. If he’d only made the decision and declared it, the plague would have ceased in a moment not after another 24 hours.
How many things are we wrestling with that could be defeated, overcome removed far from us in an instant, but remain day after day, week after week year after year, because we are either trying as the magicians did to fix it with a better idea than God’s or we’re saying to ourselves, “Tomorrow, I’m going to get started dealing with this?”
The Spirit of the Lord is calling to us. Jesus is asking us, when do you want me to intercede in your situation and deliver you from the things that are plaguing your life?
If we are serious about wanting to be free, not just giving lip service to it, now would be a good time to say so.
God said to Israel,
“… “If you diligently heed the voice of the LORD your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I am the LORD who heals you.” Exodus 15:26
Jesus says to us, His church, His people, we who are called by His name,
“For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses." Matt. 6:14-15
So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you." Matt. 17:20
So He said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is,God. But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments.” Matt. 19:17
Jesus said to him, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.” Matt. 19:21
"So Jesus answered and said to them, “Assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but also if you say to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ it will be done." Matt. 21:21
"Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things arepossible to him who believes.” Mark 9:23
"If you ask anything in My name, I will do it. “If you love Me, keep My commandments." John 14:14-15
"If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you." John 15:7
"If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love." John 15:10
"You are My friends if you do whatever I command you." John 15:14
Did you notice it? The decision is left to us to decide. So, lets’ make a decision, let’s choose right now that we don’t want to wait ‘til tomorrow not even ‘til this afternoon, not one more hour, not one more minute. Let’s decide NOW to choose freedom in Jesus Christ our Lord. The plague stops NOW! In the name of Jesus we will not live defeated one more minute.
Let’s agree together now in prayer.
