Seek Not the Living Among the Dead
“And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus. And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments: And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead? He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee, saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.” Luke 24:3-7
“And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him. And very early in the morning the first day of the week, they came unto the sepulchre at the rising of the sun. And they said among themselves, Who shall roll us away the stone from the door of the sepulchre? And when they looked, they saw that the stone was rolled away: for it was very great. And entering into the sepulchre, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, clothed in a long white garment; and they were affrighted. And he saith unto them, Be not affrighted: Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was crucified: he is risen; he is not here: behold the place where they laid him. But go your way, tell his disciples and Peter that he goeth before you into Galilee: there shall ye see him, as he said unto you.” Mark 16:1-7
Men seek for answers to life’s most pressing questions in all kinds of places and all kinds of ways. But only a few seek for them where they may be found. The answers to life’s questions are not found in philosophical ideas or human inventions, they are not found in the satisfactions and fulfillments of the flesh or the acquisition of stuff, power influence, beauty, human talents and skills, remarkable though they may be. They all fall short and fail to satisfy the deepest inner longings of the heart. Why? Because the answers to life’s questions are to be found only in one place, in One person.
All of man’s greatest achievements, most ardent pursuits and temporary pleasures fade away, ultimately leaving nothing eternal in their place. So he goes on hungering for more, or seeking ever more destructive paths to satisfy his need for life. But such pursuits are futile, because they are all endless circumnavigations among the dead —dead men seeking life, but looking for it in all the wrong places. All of man’s good works and material successethat he claims to be the result of the works of his hands alone, apart from an acknowledgement and submission to God as the source of every good a perfect gift, are merely further manifestations of death.
Jesus is still the only answer for the world today, yesterday and forever. He is Life and He is not to be found among the dead works of men, but He is also not hidden in a shroud.
On the Third Day after the crucifixion He was raised from the dead and seen by hundreds of people.
“To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God…” Acts 1:3
“For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; and that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time.” 1 Corinthians 15:3-8
He was The Living Lord walking among the living, those who believed on Him for their salvation and looked ardently for His coming to be the Messiah the holy One of Israel the Savior of the world. He will not be found in dead religions, or in man’s best efforts for good works, or in political parties, governments or earthly thrones established by the hands of men. He will not be found among the dead who deny Him and rail against Him and His Church.
‘Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord, and against his anointed, saying, Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.” Psalm 2:1-4
But He will be found alive and well for all eternity seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. He will be found in His Word, The Holy Bible, in signs and wonders, and miracles, among the living. He will be found in the hearts of those of us who are His. He will found in our words and our deeds, in our thoughts and in our actions. He will found with the Father by the power of the Holy Spirit working in us to declare Him to the world.
And so we declare again this Resurrection Day,
Jesus Christ Is Risen! He Is Risen Indeed!!
Happy Resurrection Day!!!
