What’s On Your Mind?

“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.” Isaiah 26:3

“You will guard him and keep him in perfect and constant peace whose mind [both its inclination and its character] is stayed on You, because he commits himself to You, leans on You, and hopes confidently in You.” Isaiah 26:3 AMP

“People with their minds set on you, you keep completely whole, steady on their feet, because they keep at it and don’t quit.” Isaiah 26:3 Message Bible

People greet each other in all kinds of ways. “How you doin’?” “How’s it going”? “Hello!” “Hi!” “How are you?” and so forth. Occasionally you will hear, “What’s on your mind?” The question can be probing in a significant way if the responder feels free to actually say what is dominating his or her thoughts. In John Wesley’s regular small group meetings the probing question was ”How is it with your soul?”

A good indicator of the condition of our souls is the measure and character of the things we are thinking about most of the time. Are you generally at rest and peace in your mind? Are you worried and anxious about the future? Are you angry and agitated with some situation or person? Are you feeling sad and or entertaining thoughts of failure, worthlessness, inadequacy and the like? Are you troubled in your mind about anything? If we are experiencing any of these accept the first one God is summoning us to turn our thoughts to Him. That is to choose to think about things that are true to the nature and character of God.

One of the best places to begin is to consider what it means that God is love. To contemplate love is to consider that God is motivated by and does all things toward the expression of His love. Love motivates Him to always desire the best for us and to equip us to receive it. All others things in the world are motivated by the opposite of love which is fear.

Fear is inherent at some degree in every thing that leads toward death, sin being the chief among them. Because of the sin of Adam all mankind died, but because of the Love of God through Jesus Christ all are made alive.

“Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned…” Romans 5:12

“For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.” Romans 5:17

“For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.” Romans 5:19

This to is the message of the Resurrection. Through Jesus Christ we have life and the peace of God is ours to choose. Christ has bought it for us by the precious price of His blood, poured out for us for the forgiveness and remission of sin.

“But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept. For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.” 1 Corinthians 15:20-22

There is an old worship song whose message is still true today.

Think about His love, think about His goodness Think about His grace that's brought us through For as high as the heavens above So great is the measure of our father's love Great is the measure of our Father's love So great is the measure of our Father's love.
