Love And Light
“This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all.” 1 John 1:5
“And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him.” 1 John 4:16
Considering how much we have received from the Lord and how much yet to come are His promises to us for all eternity. It is incomprehensible for us to fully understand the magnitude of the love of God. But, when we take time to think about His love we are compelled by something of His Spirit in us to reach out for more of Him.
What we are really desiring in those moments are for God to give us the capacity and the sensitivity to His Spirit to embrace more of what He is already pouring out on us in overflowing and ever increasing measure.
We are standing in the midst of a gushing stream of the glory of God all around us, but we’re only taking in a small portion of the flow because of many things that hinder us from receiving the full measure of what He has for us. God wants to fill us to overflowing with His love and light that the world will see Jesus in us.
“The lamp of the body is the eye. Therefore, when your eye is good, your whole body also is full of light. But when your eye is bad, your body also is full of darkness.” Luke 11:34
A house that is full of what is old and void of power, things that have been used and now are empty of energy to light the lamps, like a room full of dead batteries, must first be emptied if there will come the filling of fresh new things, powerful things to illuminate the house and warm the souls of those who inhabit it.
Jesus Christ stepped into a world filled with people fully immersed in and accustomed to sin. Even the religious leaders had long since abandoned their first love. Over generations the zeal for God and His laws had waxed cold and been replaced by political systems and controlling, manipulative charlatans who wore the trappings of worship, but whose hearts were far from God. The masses were dying in the ignorance of their sin and the powerful and ruling classes were dying in the pride and arrogance of their sin.
The poor and the innocent waited in hope against hope to see the Messiah. Then Love stepped into the darkness and brought the light of the glorious gospel, Jesus Christ.
“The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death, upon them a light has shined.” Isaiah 9:2
“For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.” 2 Corinthians 4:6
“And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.” John 3:19
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:16
God is Love and God is Light. Jesus is the Light of the world.
“Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, 'I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.' ” John 8:12
The message of the Gospel is the message of light dispelling darkness and love overcoming death, hell and the grave. It was the love of God that sent Jesus into the world and it was the Love of Jesus for us that caused Him to lay down His life in obedience to the Father. There has been and will be no greater love. But, we would do well to imitate that love in laying down our lives to fulfill and live out His purpose and plan for us to the end that the Kingdom of God may come upon the earth.
