Take A Deep Breath — God’s Got This!
“That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand. Let no man deceive you by any means: forthat day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.” 2 Thessalonians 2:4
In case you hadn’t noticed there is not a lot of reasonable, rational or intelligent discourse going on in most of the News reporting and commentary these days. In fact, to this listener it appears that the great majority of those reporting on events domestically are stuck on one issue only, the presidency of Donald Trump. Along with that, there is a continual drumbeat of doom and gloom. Issues of national concern in matters of race relations that were settled economically, socially and politically long ago are now being dredged up to appear to those less informed that things are worse now than they ever were.
However, being one who lived through the years of racial unrest and the civil rights movement of the 1950s and 60s I can tell you from first hand knowledge our country is far better off and more fair to all minority groups especially black Americans than ever before in its history. And this is witnessed to by the number of black Americans and other minorities who are heads of large businesses, holding pubic office at every level of government, employed in law enforcement and holding significant positions of influence in our institutions of higher learning, not to mention participation and leadership in our military, the sciences, the arts, medicine and in every part of our nation’s manufacturing and distribution and communications industries.
No nation is perfect and no political system of man is perfectly just to all and neither are all individuals kind and compassionate with their neighbors. That’s a condition of human nature. No human being in any nation is perfect before God, because all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. So no one has a right to boast or to judge. Thank God that over the years of its existence the United States of America has sought diligently to correct wrongs and injustice in our nation wherever it is found. And still we can do more.
We are not, however, as some would suggest, a nation of “white privilege” that we once were in the days of Jim Crow laws and segregation imposed to keep Black Americans from sharing the same access to goods and services as whites, particularly in the Southern United States. But those days are long since past. We are living in times that I believe Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. would call a profound realization of the freedoms for all men and women of all races as provided for in our constitution.
So, when we hear the naysayers, the doom prognosticators, the purveyors of racial divisions spewing destructive and violent rhetoric and calling for anarchy and destruction of our most sacred and proven principles of righteousness and Godly wisdom in our country, we need to step back from their noise, take a deep breath and reaffirm that this nation was founded on the truth of God’s Word by men who held an unwavering belief in the Creator of all, that He alone was our source as a nation for life, and by His providential hand (see the Declaration of Independence closing sentence) we as an independent, self governing, sovereign nation would become and remain strong and united.
So, when you hear the irrational, unreasonable and absurd rhetoric and lies of the media pundits, take a deep breath, and remember that we are still One Nation Under God, indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for All. It was by God’s grace that we are here and by God’s grace we will remain until the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ when He returns in power and great glory.
Yes. There is a day coming when all men shall be judged, when earthly kingdoms will fall and all sin stained elements shall dissolve and pass away.
“But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.” 2 Peter 3:10-13
“And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken. And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.” Luke 21:25-28
But of that day, when it shall be is known by God alone. In the meantime His message to us is, “Fear not!” We will not be judged as those who are without Christ. All men will have to give an account for every idle word they speak, [Matthew 12:36-37], but we who are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ will be extended the grace of Jesus Christ our Lord, because we have entrusted our salvation to Him alone, and He is now our High Priest and Advocate Who ever lives to make intercession for us.
“Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.” Romans 8:34
So we are not to be agitated and shaken by the idle words of those who hate us and hate our Lord. In Jesus Christ our Lord we are promised and do have life and that more abundantly through Him.
“That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand. Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.” 2 Thessalonians 2:4
“But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation. For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ…” 1 Thessalonians 5:8-9
The peace of God is ours to enjoy, even the peace that passes all understanding. Our lives are rich with blessings and the joy of the Lord is our strength. We have Good News to share and it is the true news of the work of Jesus Christ by the power of Holy Spirit working in and through us to give hope to the world. We honor God when we express our gratitude to Him for what He is doing in our nation, in our communities in our homes and in our hearts. This is the news we will not hear in the public media, but we can share it whenever and wherever with whom ever we choose and as we are prompted to by the Holy Spirit’s leading.
“Rejoice in the Lord always [delight, gladden yourselves in Him]; again I say, Rejoice! Let all men know and perceive and recognize your unselfishness (your considerateness, your forbearing spirit). The Lord is near [He is coming soon].” Philippians 4:4-5 AMP
A personal note: Today is both my grandmother’s birthday. Born May 7, 1881 they would be 148 years old today. Happy Birthday Nanny and Grannie!
