A Dwelling Place for God Among His People

”And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.” John 14:16-18

God is not far off. His involvement in our lives is not from some remote place. He is making a residence for himself among His people. There is a presence of God that is and has been manifest in the body of believers from generation to generation until now and will extend to future generations until Jesus comes again. We are intricately connected to the early church as to the church down through the ages. But we are also connected to the people of God through Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. We are one church.

We are a house in which God desires to make Himself known to the world. The foundation was laid by the works of the apostles and prophets but we, every believer, is an essential part of the structure and the whole house which is held together and supported by the chief cornerstone, Jesus Christ. The essential nature of Christ centered worship, Christ centered teaching, Christ centered living is that without Jesus Christ we are nothing more than “a house of cards”, easily blown over by the slightest wind. But by Him, in Him and through Him, we are an immovable fortress against which no force can prevail. We are firmly established in Jesus. We cannot be moved while we are in Him and He is in us.

“Father, in the name of our Chief Cornerstone, Jesus Christ, thank You for making us a part of Your glorious house. Thank You for making us a place where You desire to dwell. Live big in us, Lord that we may shine as light to the world, pointing the way to salvation in Jesus Christ. Thank You for the work of the apostles and the prophets by which we are instructed and by which we are encouraged in our faith. Thank You that we are not strangers, foreigners or aliens but we are full citizens of the Kingdom of God and share fully in all its privileges. Work in us Lord to establish Your kingdom in the earth. Thank You, Jesus for sending the Blessed Holy Spirit to be our guide, our teacher, our power from on high to be Your wtinesses throughout the world. Thank You Father, thenk You Jesus, thenk You Holy Spirit. In the Holy name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior we pray. Amen”
