Hold Fast What is Good

“Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. See how

the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, waiting patiently for it until it receives the early and latter rain. You also be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand.” James 5:7-8

“Do not quench the Spirit. Do not despise prophecies. Test all things; hold fast what is good. Abstain from every form of evil. Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.” 1Thessalonians 5:19-23

You and I are different from the world. We are a different creation. We are of a different spirit. We see things differently. We act differently. We are motivated differently. We live ours lives with a different hope and expectation. We are called to a different purpose and a different reward. We are children of a different Father, a different family, a different home and a different citizenship. Here on earth we are aliens and foreigners to the spirit and course of this present age. Our destiny is eternal Life with Jesus Christ in God.

It is not so with the world….

The worldly minded, the ungodly, the haters of God and of Christ Jesus, the purveyors and practitioners of unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness and maliciousness are people full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful; who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them. [Romans1:30-32]

They may seem for the moment to be prospering and in power. To them sin is no longer sin, it is just a lifestyle choice. So they murder, they steal, they covet, they greedily hoard to themselves the resources of their ungodly endeavors. But God is not mocked. Whatever a man sows that shall he also reap.

“Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, waiting patiently for it until it receives the early and latter rain. James 5:7

Prayer is one of the most important, most essential, most powerful weapons, most effective tools, most inexhaustible means of communication and the most direct avenue of effective change given to every believer. The power of prayer is exponential, particularly when in warfare we pray in agreement with other believers.

“And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken.” Ecclesiastes 4:12

Prayer will change not only our individual circumstances but through prayer we can change the world. But we need patience. There is coming a great outpouring of the early and later rain together, and it will be glorious.

So we pray today…

“Father, in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, our Savior, our Redeemer, our King and our brother, I pray today and ask You to intercede in the lives and circumstances of each person reading this today.

We join together in prayer and we ask You to turn the hearts of the people of this nation back to You. We pray for righteousness, honor, integrity and trustworthiness to be over all those who are in the government of this nation. We pray that the President will acknowledge the Lordship and authority of Jesus Christ over this nation, One Nation under God.

We pray the Congress, the House of Representatives and the Senate will only do business that is in harmony and agreement with Your will for this nation and the believers, the body of Christ in it.

We pray for the peace of Jerusalem and for Your will to be done and only Your will to be done in that region of the world. We pray for the people of our nation that have been so grieved by the recent mass shootings that have taken so many lives and those in cities where murder has become common place, that they will find relief and that the evil ones will come to repentance, acknowledging the truth of their deeds and turn away from violence and destruction and turn their hearts to Jesus and be saved,

We also pray for those throughout the world where the rule of evil men have devastated the economies of nations and left their people in abject poverty and despair and where earthquakes, famines, pestilences and greed have ravaged not only the land but the lives and hearts of the people. We pray for Your provisions, for Your peace and restoration of life to be poured out on all the people in those places. We pray for the Gospel of Jesus Christ to be heard and received by men and women in every nation of the world.

We pray for our military personnel serving throughout the world, that You would bless and keep them and their families by Your great grace and mercy, and that You would prosper their way and their righteous, courageous efforts to defend the weak and to resist and defeat the evil ones.

We pray for our brothers and sisters in Christ. Father, I particularly pray for this family of believers who receive this daily devotional that You will intervene in their circumstances to bring healing to their bodies now, to bring healing to their minds and emotions, to give them a restored joy and peace to their hearts and a spirit of joyous expectation for the good things Your are causing to flow into their lives even today in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, our Lord and Savior.

I pray for financial and material blessings to come to them now in abundance. I pray that all their creditors are satisfied now and that they owe no man anything but to love him. I pray for them to have a surplus now that they may be blessed and be a blessing according Your covenant promise to Abraham and to his seed after him in their generations. Thank You Father that we are Christ’s and therefore we are Abraham’s seed and heirs according to the promise.

I pray in hope and expectation of good coming from Your hand to each of us now in the blessed and holy name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Now Lord we thank You for answered prayer, believing that we receive the things we have asked of You now as we pray, and we forgive any who have offended us and we pray Your forgiveness to cover all our sin with the blood of Jesus Christ. Blessed be Your name, Lord, forever and ever. AMEN.”
