The Power, Comfort And Wisdom Of Love
“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy.” 1:7
“My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.” 1 John 3:18
The power of God is evident all around us. All creation declares it. God is love and all that He does and all that He is expresses that Love. Love is the motivating force of our faith by which we are called to walk in this world. [Ephesians 5:2-3]
The great power of God’s Love sent Jesus to die for our sins [Romans 5:8-9] then by that same power raised Him up again from the dead to provide the means, even His precious blood, by which we are translated into the kingdom of His dear Son,
“Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins…” Colossians 1:12-14
The power of Love will never fail, and it will remain forever, long after faith and hope have ceased. [1 Corinthians 13:13]
Love is the power that enables us to overcome sin and to experience the joy of the Lord as our strength even in times of hardship, tests and trials, because it is the love God being shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit that constrains us to seek God’s pleasure rather than our own. It is the Love of God in us and through us that empowers our faith to minister His healing, deliverance, salvation, and the fruit of the Spirit to others. It is also His Love that motivates us to share from the abundance of the provisions and blessings He provides us to help to meet the needs of others.
There is nothing that we can do in the name of Jesus that will be effective unless it is motivated by Love. But all that we do and say, especially our prayers, motivated by love in faith will be effective because the power of God is in all that is done by love.
The Holy Spirit has been sent to us by the Father because Jesus, motivated by Love for the Father and for us prayed that the Father would send Him.
“And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.” John 14:16-17
While Jesus walked in the earth as a man He was the Comforter to all. Everywhere He went He brought the message of the Gospel, the ministry of God’s grace, mercy, forgiveness, healing, deliverance, provision, power and love. Now He has sent us another Comforter to abide with us and in us forever. It is He, the Comforter, The Holy Spirit who is shedding abroad the love of God in our hearts.
“And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad inour hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us. For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.” Romans 5:5-6
Surely it is the love of God in the work of the Holy Spirit that comforts us in grief and sorrow, and gives us the hope of eternal life, so that we do not grieve as those who have no hope. [1 Thessalonians 4:13-14]
“Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.” Psalm 42:11
As our comforter He is also our teacher, our leader our guide and the revealer of God’s Word in our hearts. It is He that gives us wisdom and understanding in all matters that pertain to life and godliness, and it is His power and love that we draw on out of the abundance of our hearts to edify one another in love and to exhort one another to good works.
It is the Love of God expressed in the Holy Spirit that empowers us to be His witnesses throughout the world. [Acts 1:8]
There are two kinds of wisdom in the world. There is the wisdom that is earthly, sensual and devilish, characterized by bitter envying and strife, confusion and every evil work. [James 3:14-16] and there is the wisdom from above which is characterized by purity, peace, gentleness, ease of understanding, great mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. [James 3:17]
The wisdom from above is from Love and proceeds to us with love. As we employ that wisdom in our lives Love is present with it to cause it to bear the peaceful fruit of love in us and through us to others, to the glory of God and the advancing of His Kingdom on the earth. [Luke 11:2]
While there are many admonitions to love one antherthroughout the Scriptures, in a very practical way love just makes good sense. Consider these from the Word.
“No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.” 1 John 4:12
“There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect inlove.” 1 John 4:18
“Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all sins.” Proverbs 10:12
“He who covers and forgives an offense seeks love, but he who repeats or harps on a matter separates even close friends.” Proverbs 17:9 AMP
