Blessed With Health And Increase
“Blessed shall be the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy ground, and the fruit of thy cattle, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep.” Deuteronomy 28:4
The fruit of the body are primarily children and grandchildren, but they are also those who are inspired by the love, compassion, mercy, grace, wisdom, knowledge and encouragement we extended to them and all those entrusted to our care and into whom we pour ourselves, those we mentor and those we teach. Their successes in life are in part the fruit of our spiritual investment in them. The fruit of our bodies are also health and wellbeing, physical strength, energy, stamina, endurance and the things we produce through creative invention and discovery.
The fruit of our ground are the agricultural products we plant and grow for a future harvest and they are all things we discover hidden in the earth that may be mined or excavated or unearthed by intentional exploration or accidently discovery. What God has provided in the soil of the earth that hastens the growth of our crops is also the fruit four ground.
The fruit of our cattle, the increase of our kine (cows) and the flocks our sheep are for most of us today metaphors for living things that have commercial value which God provides that also have the power to reproduce themselves again and again. We know this includes all livestock, but most of us do not make our living by the production of agricultural products. While there are no direct equivalents to cattle, cows and sheep in our technology driven economy there are some parallels we can draw to apply the principal of this kind of increase.
In the days of Abraham when God revealed the promises of His covenant to him and to his seed after him all men made their wealth and lived from the ever increasing provision that God provided in making their ground to produce good fruit and abundant harvests of vegetables, grain and seeds, and for their flocks and herds to multiply daily and season by season. Today, most people make their living through myriad kinds of jobs, goods and services that have value. These are exchanged as commodities that provide income for the producer, the distributer, the sales agent and the deliverer. The one who owns the companies that produce the products, and controls their distribution and delivery make the most money generally speaking. Their increase is limited only by the supply and demand for their goods and services. The blessing of the Lord on them makes for ever-increasing resources to supply the increasing demand for their products.
On a more individual level, whatever gifts, abilities, talents, and special skills we have from God have value and are potentially marketable commodities through which we can earn a living. Through these, God brings us increase and multiplies our gifts as we steward them well by faithfulness, diligence, wisdom, understanding and prudence. We are blessed in the increase of our gifts extended to greater and greater potential users and consumers and by them therefore we receive greater and ever-increasing income and wealth. This is the means by which God promised to bless His people as they keep His covenant. But greater than those who originally received this blessing we are not disqualified for our shortcomings and failures to live up to the utmost demands of the law of Moses and Abraham. We are the people of God who have been granted the mercy and grace of the Law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus that has made us free from the Law of sin and death.
The blessings of the Lord are given to us by faith and grace not by our works. Our works of righteousness still matter, but they are evaluated on the basis of the spirit of the law not the letter of the law. The letter of the law kills, but the spirit of the Law makes room for frailty and the fact that we have the treasure of God’s covenant sealed in our hearts in these earthen vessels of clay.
“Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.” 2 Corinthians 3:6
“For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.” 2 Corinthians 4:6-7
So the power that is at work in us is not our own, but it is God Himself working in us both to will and to do of His good pleasure.
“For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.” Philippians 2:13
Therefore we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us. We are not defeated, weak, helpless, inadequate, nor ill-equipped for whatever the task that is set before us. We are more than conquerors. We are more than abundantly supplied. We serve our Father God, Whose name is El Shaddai, More Than Enough.
Finally, one of the frequently used tactics of the devil is to try to make us believe there will not be enough so we are tempted to hoard or fearfully hold on to whatever little we have, despite the fact that God provided what we have and has provided for us again and again and has never failed to meet our need. Yet each time our resources are temporarily depleted and we must wait for His hand to provide, that same voice of doubt and fear starts to shout again, “this time you’re doomed, you’re not going to make it, you’re going to fail and then you’re going to lose everything.”
Say it out loud! The devil is a liar!!!!
OUR FAITH IS IN GOD OUR FATHER, THROUGH JESUS CHRIST OUR LORD WHO IS GOOD AND HIS MERCY ENDURES FOREVER! HE WILL NEVER LEAVE US OR FORSAKE US! HE HAS PROMISED AND HE WILL DO IT! WE ARE MORE THAN ABUNDANTLY SUPPLIED FOR EVERY NEED AND MORE THAN ENOUGH TO BE A BLESSING TO OTHERS. WE DO NOT FEAR LOSS, LACK OR BAD NEWS. WE BELIEVE AND RECEIVE THE FULLNESS OF GOD’S BLESSINGS, HEALING, WISDOM, PROVISION, MERCY, GRACE AND LOVE SENT TO US NOW IN THIS TIME.
I AM BLESSED IN THE CITY AND BLESSED THE FIELD, BLESSED IN THE FRUIT OF MY BODY, BLESSED IN THOSE I SERVE AND THOSE INTO WHOM I POUR MY HEART, BLESSED IN THE INCREASE OF MY RESOURCES, IN MY PRODUCTIVITY, IN MY WORK AND MY WEALTH. I AM BLESSED. WE ARE BLESSED!
In all these things we are blessed to be a blessing!
