We Are God’s Holy People
“The LORD shall establish thee an holy people unto himself, as he hath sworn unto thee, if thou shalt
keep the commandments of the LORD thy God, and walk in his ways. And all people of the earth shall see that thou art called by the name of the LORD; and they shall be afraid of thee.” Deuteronomy 28:9-10
From the time God called Abram out of Ur of the Chaldees [Genesis 15:7] it was His intent to raise up a nation established in holiness, a people set apart for God’s purpose. It was His sacred oath to them, sworn in blood. [See Genesis 15:1-18] But this promise was conditioned by their act of obedience to keep the commandments of the Lord their God, and walk in His ways. Additionally, because of their obedience to God’s commandments and God’s favor on them other nations would not dare to come against them knowing that the power of God rested with them, and those who dared to do so would be soundly defeated before their faces.
As they began to multiply and increase from the days when Jacob became Israel and begat 12 sons, whose descendants became the 12 tribes of Israel, their numbers grew so mightily, even while they were living in the land of Egypt that an Egyptian Pharaoh who did not regard the history of Joseph a son of Jacob whose insights and wisdom from God saved the entire nation during the great famine and made the rulers of his day and the whole nation very rich. Rather this Pharaoh saw their great numbers as a threat to his rule so he had them bound into slavery.
After 400 years they were delivered out of Egypt. Lead by Moses they came to Mt. Sinai after wandering in the desert for 40 years. Here God gave them the set of Laws and ordinances that would govern their lives from that time until the fulfillment of the Law was complete in The Seed of Abraham, Jesus, the Messiah, the Christ, our Savior and Lord.
Yes, Israel was called to be set apart as a holy people but the covenant promise was to all the seed as an everlasting Covenant. Now we are the seed of Abraham through faith in Jesus Christ and therefore joint heirs of the covenant blessing made to the descendants of Abraham through Isaac and Jacob (Israel)
“And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.” Galatians 3:29
God has declared that we (with Israel) are and shall be His holy people, set apart for His service and made so blessed and favored among men that they will be afraid of us. That is, we will be so highly regarded in the eyes of men that they will know that we walk in the same power and anointing as Jesus did on the earth doing the works that He did and even greater works, now in this time with signs wonders following the teaching and preaching of His Word in a demonstration of His spirit and power.
This is our calling, and this is our destiny as the Church of Jesus Christ. And God is working in us and through us to bring us to the fullest realization of His covenant that His Kingdom will surely be established on the earth.
“But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day.” Deuteronomy 8:18
“And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.” Luke 11:2
“But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light..”1 Peter 2:9
“And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.” Revelation 1:6
“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” Ephesians 2:10
“Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.” Ephesians 2:5-7
“And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ…” Ephesians 4:11-13
Finally we echo the prayer of the apostle, Paul.
“For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; that Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God. Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen." Ephesians 3:14-21
Whatever is the will of God in Heaven is the will of God on the earth. Whatever is not the will of God in Heaven is not the will of God on the earth.
So we pray, “Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven,” because there is so much done on the earth that is not the will of God. Now, God has set us apart as His Holy people to be His change agents for the will of God to be done on the earth.
Jesus was the first change agent making the ultimate sacrifice for us all. Now we have been given the charge to live in His power and go into all the world preaching and demonstrating the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It is God’s covenant promise that He will be with us wherever we go and He will bless all the work of our hands.
“And the LORD, He is the One who goes before you. He will be with you, He will not leave you nor forsake you; do not fear nor be dismayed.” Deuteronomy 31:8
“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10
“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you.” Isaiah 43:2
God is with us. He is OUR God. We are His holy people. Indeed, we are His sons and daughters, His children. He loves us and His will is only good for us.
