Anyone Need Some “It?”
“Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.” Luke 6:38
Do you need some “it?” The word says there is a sure way to get some “it” if “it” is what you need. Here’s the word.
What is “it?” Well let’s consider what the passage is saying. In context, we can conclude that “it” is a measurable entity that can be increased and even caused to flow endlessly. “It” apparently is transferable from one person to another. Multiples of “it” can be contained in some kind of gathering garment. A little cultural context:
The “bosom” referred to in this passage is not a mere reference to the chest area but any part of a loose fitting garment (an apron) that could be held in such a way as to support receiving or carrying any kind of commodity such as fruits and vegetables from a garden, eggs gathered from chickens, clothes, money, just about anything that would be desirable.
“Give, and [gifts] will be given to you; good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over, will they pour into [the pouch formed by] the bosom [of your robe and used as a bag]. For with the measure you deal out [with the measure you use when you confer benefits on others], it will be measured back to you.” Luke 6:38
The key to knowing what “it” is, can be found in this phrase,
“with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.” KJV “For with the measure you deal out [with the measure you use when you confer benefits on others], it will be measured back to you.” AMP
In other words whatever the “it” is that you give is the “it” that will come back to you. It’s not mystical or ethereal. It’s very practical and simple. Now that doesn’t mean that when you give away something you no longer desire that you will be inundated with more of them. [that could happen] Anybody looking for a leisure suit or some platform shoes? Yuck! That would not be the blessing of the Lord making you rich and adding no sorrow with it.
But the principle is sound.
If you give love (affection, kindness, encouragement, compassion, forgiveness, hope, caring, joy, support, cheerfulness, etc.) you will receive love and all of these. If you give money you will receive money. If you give patience you will receive patience, If you give clothes you will receive clothes, if houses, houses, if lands, lands. If you forgive, you will be forgiven. Whatever your “it” is you will receive it when you give “it.” Did you know your words are gifts that can be given? You can give encouragement. You can give understanding. You can give comfort. You can give inspiration. You can give joy, laughter, peace, hope and even life. Yes, life, especially when you speak words of hope, edification and comfort to someone you can restore their sense of hope, of personal value and of purpose in life. Remember:
“Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and they who indulge in it shall eat the fruit of it [for death or life].” Prov. 18:21

“Wait and hope for and expect the Lord; be brave and of good courage and let your heart be stout and enduring. Yes, wait for and hope for and expect the Lord.” Psalm 27:14 “Be strong and let your heart take courage, all you who wait for and hope for and expect the Lord!” Psalm 31:24
Think about this…
“Do not let your heart envy sinners, but be zealous for the fear of the LORD all the day; for surely there is a hereafter, and your hope will not be cut off.” Proverbs 23:17-18
The “it” that God provides has no sorrow in it.
“The blessing of the LORD makes one rich, and He adds no sorrow with it.” Proverbs 10:22
