Considering Psalm 34 Part 10

“The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous, and His ears are open to their cry. The face of the LORD is against those who do evil, to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth.” Psalm 34:15-16

Just think about this for a moment. God the Creator of the universe and every living from the least to the greatest, is looking out for you and me, day and night.  He is listening in anticipation of our prayers. Even before we ask, He is ready to answer. And, the even greater blessing is, we can be confident that whatever He wills for us has our best interest at heart.  He loves us far beyond our understanding. Through Jesus Christ our Lord we see the ultimate expression of His Love, in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us.  And Because He has dies for us and been raised from the dead, we have eternal life and will never see death. This is how He put it.

Jesus told Martha after Lazarus was dead and in the tomb for three days.

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?” John 11:25

What He is saying here is that our bodies, which is the outward man, eventually dies, but that body will be raised up to life again. But the inner man, the new creation that believes in Jesus alone for salvation, that man will never die; will never be departed from God our Father.  We just pass out of these perishing earthly bodies into our glorified eternal bodies that are alive forever in Him.

“We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord. 2 Corinthians 5:8

Now we are the righteous, and God’s ears are attentive to our cries. Like a mother knows the cries of her child. She can distinguish between, the cry of hunger and the cry of pain. She the difference from the cry for attention and the cry of the need to rest. She also knows the cry of “I don’t’ know why I’m crying. I’m a baby. That’s what I do.”

God is even more aware of our cries than our mothers. He knows the inner cries of our hearts, our longings, our passions, our desperations and our fears, even things we cannot express in words. He knows our weaknesses and our strengths. And His love for us is always is boundless. He understands that we are dust, frail, broken vessels, human beings with all our foibles, contradictions, complexities and proclivities to sin.

Despite our evil ways He looks beyond all our faults and still meets our needs when we cry to Him.

The face of the LORD is against those who do evil, to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth.”

But for all His love and compassion, God is also just and righteous and He does not look on the wicked with favor or wink His eye at the evil men do. His face is against them to utterly destroy them and all their works forever.  Nothing that the wicked has perpetrated will remain. Even death will be swallowed up in victory.

“Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed— in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.” “O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory?” The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 1Corinthians 15:51-57

Righteousness is the gift of God given to all who confess with their mouths that Jesus is Lord and believe in their hearts that God has raised Him from the dead. On them the eyes of the Lord are always attentive.
