“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” Genesis 1:1
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God.” John 1:1-2
The beginning of the year is a good time to consider the beginning of all things. We know that God is. He has no beginning. He is The I AM, the always existing, One and only true God. He is triune in nature and person. He is Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
In Genesis we read that God created the Heavens and the earth in the beginning. This was the beginning of all creation and everything that God created, He called good. When they (God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit) created man He called his creation very good.
We were created in the image and likeness of God. We have in our human makeup the nature of God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. God is triune, three in one. Likewise, we are triune, three in one, soul, mind and body. And God is in perfect union with Himself. In the beginning we were likewise in perfect union with ourselves. That is how God intended for us to live, in peace and agreement within ourselves and with all mankind. Peace within ourselves is expressed in the Amplified translation of the word peace.
1. untroubled, undisturbed well-being
“And He said to her, Daughter, your faith (your confidence and trust in Me) has made you well! Go (enter) aintopeace (buntroubled, undisturbed well-being).” Luke 8:48
2. freedom from all the distresses that are experienced as the result of sin and upon which your peace—your bsecurity, safety, prosperity, and happiness
“Exclaiming, ‘ Would that you had known personally, even at least in this your day, the things that make for peace (for freedom from all the distresses that are experienced as the result of sin and upon which your peace—your security, safety, prosperity, and happiness—depends)! But now they are hidden from your eyes.’ ” Luke 19:42
3. heart peace
“Grace (spiritual blessing and favor) be to all of you and [heart] peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah).” Philemon 3 AMP
4. harmony; undisturbedness from fears, agitating passions, and moral conflicts
“Let him turn away from wickedness and shun it, and let him do right. Let him search for peace (harmony; undisturbedness from fears, agitating passions, and moral conflicts) and seek it eagerly. [Do not merely desire peaceful relations with God, with your fellowmen, and with yourself, but pursue, go after them!]” 1 Peter 3:11 AMP
All of these define the kind of peace God intended for us to enjoy. And now in Jesus Christ our Lord we can once again have the kind of peace that is untroubled, undisturbed well-being, freedom from all the distresses that are experienced as the result of sin and upon which our peace—our security, safety, prosperity, and happiness depends; heart peace and harmony; undisturbedness from fears, agitating passions, and moral conflicts. In other words, that you will be carefree and confident in the keeping of God’s care.
My prayer for you in 2021 is that this peace, the peace of God the Creator of all things will keep you in the perfect peace which passes all understanding and will keep your heart and mind in perpetual peace through Christ Jesus our Lord. Amen and Amen.
